Meet the designer
behind Studio 39.
Grace Mellin founded Studio 39 with a clear point of view: that a well-designed space should feel specific to the person living in it — not pulled from a catalog, not chasing a trend. She trained in interior design at Marymount University, spent years working on residential projects with established DC-area designers, and launched Studio 39 to do things her own way.
She works with clients at every scale — from a single neglected room to a full home transformation — and brings the same level of care and attention to each one. Her mother and co-founder Claire Messinger, a veteran DC-area designer, stays close to the work as a senior advisor. Between the two of them, there's a lot of perspective in the room. What drives them both: the belief that a well-designed room changes how you feel in it. Not just how it photographs.
